Catpains’ Log : Paw Date 22nd November 2021

I talk to the other cats in the street quite a bit, even though they are all quite silly in the head. Not one of them has my frantic and concentrated ability in tail chasing and cardboard box investigation. They are slightly disappointing creatures, who don’t relish fun on the scale that I do. But, for the sake of community spirit in the street, I do stop and make conversation when weather conditions permit (I am certainly not going to hang around meowing outside in the wet, no way!).

You can find out some useful stuff by chatting to other felines. For example I found out this week that many of the humans in the street were going to be having be having a mass switch on of the Christmas lights in the street. Apparently a lot of the other cats were afraid that fireworks might be involved (and none of us like that at all because it can be so bone-crunchingly scary). I told them that was very unlikely for this time of year, when it is so cold. But I must say the whole affair seemed to me to odd, being so far before Christmas. But my fellow (daft) cats were right about the lights going on. Sure enough last Sunday the humans all traipsed outside, had some good-tempered conversation, at some mince pies, and then kapow, all the Christmas lights were switched on at the same time. It was beautiful! But, cat friend, it was early in the year. If you’re going to put Christmas lights up in November, why not just leave them up all year round?
