What are Bombays?
The Bombay is a hybrid
between the sable Burmese and black American Shorthair. Bombays
are called the "patent leather kid with new penny
eyes." Their coats are shiny and close lying and are so
black they reflect white. Their big eyes are gold to copper.
Because this breed is rare and the gene pool small, it is still
allowed to outcross with the Americans and Burmese. Bombays come
in two colors: black and sable. In CFA only black Bombays may be
shown, while the sables can be used in the breeding program or
sold as pets. In TICA the sables are registered and shown as
sable Burmese/Bombay varients and compete in the show ring as
Burmese.

These cats have the
Burmese purrsonality, which means they are very laid back,
friendly, intelligent, and people oriented. Some owners describe
them as "lap fungus" or "velcro" because they
always want to be close to their people.{ As shown above } They
will get along with most dogs and other breeds of cats. Because
Bombays are so highly domesticated, they will not do well
outside.
